Volunteering
I spent much of yesterday (that would be Sunday) volunteering at the Ride for the Roses.  The RftR is put on each year by the Lance Armstrong Foundation and raises money for cancer survivorship programs.  The LAF is, of course, set up by super-cyclist Lance... full entry

No Wally World for Oakland
Oakland, California has succeeded in stopping Walmart from entering the city. I have honestly not formulated an opinion as to whether or not I think that Walmart is good or bad.  It provides jobs, and makes products readily accessible at low prices.  Do I think... full entry

It’s 2 a.m., do you know where your sleep is?
It’s 1:55am right now, and yeah, I’m still at work.  Our email / web server had a critical hard drive failure today.  I spent my afternoon running various recovery tools on it as well as trying to copy any readable data to a good drive.... full entry

Burnin’ Some Discs
My new :DVD: burner came in yesterday and I hooked it up last night.  I was able to burn an :MP3: disc for use in my new car stereo and it works great.  Eleven albums on a single disc… that rocks! I haven’t tried any... full entry

My Henson Fascination
One of the things we are doing here at the house in preparation for our trip to New Zealand in three weeks, is to have a large yard sale.  It will be the first time in our six years of marriage that we part with... full entry

Fuel for the Soul
I ended up going to a concert last night.  Soccer practice got canceled (go rain!) and my roommate was going so I tagged along.  The headline act was Fuel, who I quite like.  You’ve no doubt heard their current single “Falls on Me” on the... full entry

All I need is a good script
Ok, with my upcoming trip to New Zealand, I really needed a video camera.  I mean--how many times do you go to New Zealand?  I mean, for me, just twice.  Once to visit, once to move. :D Seriously though, we’re going for two weeks, and... full entry

Now I’ve Done it…
Oh dear… what have I done now?  Yesterday afternoon I took the plunge and ordered a :DVD: writer.  An Optorite DD0203, to be specific.  It’s a “multi-format” drive, which means that it can write to -R, -RW, +R, and +RW DVDs as well as regular... full entry

Bustin a Cap in the Mythos
Ok, it’s official.  My new favorite T.V. show is MythBusters.  Two guys who have a combined total of 30 years experience in the special effects industry take urban legend and myths, and put them to the test with scientific accuracy mixed with the innate male... full entry

Adventures in Sound
I decided a while ago that I was tired of having no :CD: player in my truck, so I began doing research into stereo receivers: brands, prices, features, etc.  Man, there’s a lot to go through.  Luckily, I could narrow it down fairly quickly.  I’m... full entry

Remembering Two Years Ago
I’m sure there will be quite a bit going around today about remembering two years ago today: 9/11.  Me?  I think I’ll go read John M. Ford’s 110 Stories poem.  I encourage you to take a few moments to read this really powerful piece yourself.

I sure do love me some new equipment
I’ve spent eight hours of my day today trying to get a Roland Camm-1 Pro cad cutter put together and working.  Those of you with Macs will understand my fury at developers that make software for commercial production that are nearly always in facilities running... full entry

Everything I Learned about Maori I learned from Whale Rider
It’s quite timely, considering that I’m leaving for New Zealand in less than two months, that the Whale Rider be released now.  This movie is a present day film revolving around a village of Maori.  Considering I know little about them, I thought this film... full entry

Let’s Go Bowling!
The “Development” group here at work is having a little party/celebration today for the fact that we shipped a new version of our product last month.  So what are we doing?  Why, bowling, of course! I’ve always enjoyed going out for a couple of games... full entry

Penny the Puppy
I’ve mentioned it offhand in a couple of other posts, so it’s not new news: I now have a dog.  Her name is Penny and she’s about 15 months old, give or take a little.  She’s a “mutt”, technically, but we’re pretty sure she’s mostly... full entry

A Case of the Mondays
I don’t care if it’s really Tuesday, I’m still having a “case of the Mondays”.  (For those of you who don’t get the reference, you need to watch more Ron Livingston movies.) First, I didn’t sleep well at all last night.  I woke up probably... full entry

I Love Moving
Oh yes I do.  I so enjoy having to move.  Can you taste the sarcasm?  Anyway, we got pretty much everything moved this weekend to the new apartment.  Of course, the new place is now a maze/minefield of strewn boxes and furniture. I had an... full entry

Damn, Too Busy
BTW, I’m back from my mini-vacation.  Had a wonderful time and got to see/meet a lot of great friends.  Can’t say I got much sleep, either, but I’m more or less back to normal now.  Which is to say, perpetually a little bit tired. Anyway,... full entry

Notice of Absence
For those few of you who stop by here regularly: I’m going to be out of town and thus not blogging starting tomorrow.  Or, rather today, Wednesday July 23.  I’ll be back sometime mid-day Monday July 28.  So, don’t expect any new posts during that... full entry

Spitting
I think I have a problem with spitting.  Not spitting in public, or on sidewalks, in front of old ladies… not anything like that.  No, my problem is with spitting in bathrooms—specifically, the fact that I almost always spit into a toilet or urinal when... full entry
