Farewell, Old Site
Seeing as how the site was redesigned, I figured it might be good to be able to compare the new version to the old.  So, here’s a quick screenshot of the front page of the previous design. Yeah, that old design was really getting pretty... full entry

CCDO… Back From the Dead
Well, I suppose it had to happen sometime.  I’ve been absolutely horrible posting to the site the last year or so.  For the last several years (wow, this sounds kind of pathetic now) I’ve started work on at least half a dozen site redesigns, with... full entry

Rick Has a Blog.  Again.
Somehow, I completely missed this news.  Well, actually, I know exactly how I missed it, but that’s not the point.  The point is that Rick Ellis (oh he of pMachine and ExpressionEngine fame) has a new weblog going.  He previously had one going and then... full entry

Browser Usage
As I mentioned in my last post, I’m planning on redesigning the site fairly soon (and I still welcome any help on that front!).  While browsing around various blogs this evening, I came across this post on Simplebits about hiding :CSS: from various browsers.  Specifically,... full entry

Rick’s Blogging?
What the hell?  I decide to check out Rick’s pMblog during my usual rounds and note that there’s a new entry there.  “Wow,” I thought, “that doesn’t happen too often.” Then I kept scrolling down on the page.  10 entries since September 12. That’s not... full entry

New Link Resources
Just as a bit of an FYI to people who might care:  I’ve revised my list of “Other Site” links over in the sidebar over the past couple of days.  I removed a number of sites that I either no longer really visit or that... full entry

MT 3.0 Licenses Revised
A couple of days ago I posted about the :MT: 3.0 release and the furor surrounding the pricing and licenses. Well, obviously Six Apart took a lot of the “constructive feedback” to heart and has now posted some clarification about some of the concerns with... full entry

Movable Type 3.0 Developer Edition
Funny that I should mention :MT: 3.0 earlier today, because the 3.0 Developer Edition just released today.  From what I can gather, “Developer Edition” is really essentially another, more refined, public beta.  Maybe. Anyway, the big news is the new licensing scheme to go along... full entry

EE vs. MT Comparison
Rick, over on his own blog, pointed to this very excellent :EE: vs. :MT: comparison.  It’s relatively subjective and certainly doesn’t cover all the features or points of either system, but it’s still a very nice read comparing ExpressionEngine and (the still forthcoming) Movable Type... full entry

Blogger Relaunches
The relaunch of Blogger is relatively old news around the blogging community, I guess, but somehow I just found out.  Guess I just don’t browse around as much now that I’m not stuck in an office 8 hours a day… Anyway, there’s a relaunch announcement... full entry

Centralized Comment Registration: TypeKey
Apparently, the talk around the :MT: community this weekend was all about TypeKey.  It’s an as-yet-unreleased service by SixApart, the folks who do MT and TypePad.  From their site, here’s a short description: The basics about TypeKey: TypeKey is a free, open system providing a... full entry

Like the New Titles?
I decided to try implementing the Nice Titles script.  (Originally by Stuart Langridge and further modified by several people.) To see it in action simply hover your mouse over the link in this paragraph or those in either of the previous two entries. So, how... full entry

And Now… Subdomains!
You probably haven’t noticed anything yet, but the site now uses subdomains.  Since I’ve never messed with subdomains before and my account supports it, I figured I might as well try them out.  The Movie Database, Co-Movie Database, and Galleries are now all off on... full entry

Dive Into… Madness?
I’ve got to say, though, that Dive Into Mark‘s new front page (link above) is simply horrible.  It doesn’t exactly qualify as “mystery meat navigation” since things are labeled, but it’s needlessly confusing and there’s no longer a way to quickly and easily see “recent”... full entry

Comment Spam?  What’s That?
If you go and browse Blogdex today, you might think that some horrible “comment spam” bomb had detonated in the blogiverse.  Eeek!  Everyone’s blogs are being inundated by comment spam!  Or are they? Here are just a few of the many, many posts on the... full entry

Navigation Moved
In case you didn’t notice, I’ve moved the main site navigation from the block on the right to a “tabbed” list below the site header.  This method is a bit more compact and frees up some space over on the right since that column was... full entry

Apologies about Galleries/Movies
BTW, I want to apologize to everyone about the fact that the Galleries and Movies sections don’t work.  (Actually, they do work in a roundabout sort of way, but it requires you to fudge with the :URL:s and that just ain’t cool.) I switched the... full entry

PVRblog
Matt Haughey (whose name, every time I see it, makes me think of my great friend Mike Haughey...) appears to have a new weblog up about PVRs such as TiVo.  As a very satisfied TiVo user myself, I think I’ll be following this site with... full entry

Site Updated
Bit of an announcement post.  First, the weblog’s been updated (finally) to pMachine version 2.3.  The most noticeable change you’ll see is that the site now uses “search engine-friendly :URL:s”.  Basically, instead of seeing something like ”comments.php?id=P464_0_1_0” in the URL, you’ll now see ”comments/P464_0_1_0/”.  A... full entry
