‘Battlestar Galactica’ is a Go!

Sci-Fi channel has confirmed that a new Battlestar Galactica series has been greenlit.  It will, of course, be based on the well-received miniseries that was shown last December.  There’s also another article that discusses some about what we might see in the first 13 episodes that have been approved.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I rather enjoyed the miniseries.  The effects were very good, the story was a nice bit of a twist from the original, and it just seemed to work really well.  Plus, they left it at a real cliffhanger, so I want to see what happens next! [grin]

And they ripped off Firefly’s no-sounds-in-space and “handcam” in space look too.

Oh well, someone might as well get some use out of Whedon’s genius…

My only complaint about the Sci-Fi channel is the canned acting.  The movies they do have such large scope stories that they have to have waaay too many actors, and therefore can afford people who barely get work doing commercials.  I certainly hope moving to a series allows them to scale it down a bit and maybe have a core crew. Even if they aren’t *great* actors, there’ll be realistic growing relationships between them.

As it was, I didn’t get real attached to the miniseries.  I’m certainly not one of the “it’s not the original so it stinks” people.  ST:TNG was far better than the original; maybe BSG will follow suit and surprise me.
