Continuing the iPod Theme…

hp colors?....eh… unless they do something with a neat blue glow.... im bored with the idea allready. however, this could mean a hella good deal at walmart on a recycled 10gig ipod renamed HP-cheaponator or something.
I mean.. the more i think of this.... ok yeah, it would be nice to have all my cd’s on one ipod… but uh… ive got under 100 CDs… 15 songs a cd maybe...1400 songs? how big of an ipod will i EVER need?
although, i have been thinking it would be cool to be able to partition it and use it for backup purposes as well. Im sure its usb 2.0 right? ... and then if i get more CDs in the future blah blah blah
AH one other thing i forgot to mention as this has to do with the ipod as well.
IN checking with the many many many other personal media players out there… the ipod mini IS a good deal… its just not a good deal when compared to its ‘really good deal for what your getting’ older brother.
(and derek, the tungston t3 comes with 64mb of ram… the Sony Clie ux50 comes with 108
)
Yeah, but what I’m saying is that I can secure and EXTRA 256MB on any PocketPC for $69. That brings the Axim X3i, with all of the features of the Clie and more, except that it doesn’t have a bulky keyboard that I’d never use---for $410. The Clie is just $300 overpriced, get used to it.
Assuming that I needed a keyboard that was too small to actually be useful instead of a hinderance, I could add that one for $59.
Where’s the incentive to use a Clie? Besides, the more I read about Palm OS, the less and less I like it.
its $510 at best buy and cicuit city, -$69 (to purcahse more ram) its only $140 over priced...theoreticly, and minus whatever it would cost to get an exteranl keybaord, and a pencam .....and just because you wouldnt use the keybaord doesnt mean other people wont
But i digress… it would be no fun enjoying my friendship with you if you gave no conflictual opinions for me to think about…
buuuuut i agree with the palm os comment… compared to MS pocketpc 2003… palm os is teh suxors
ps, im going to that german bar with over 500 beer choices tonight :D
pps has anyone taken a look at Dell’s take on the ipod game? It seems to be a noteworthy machine with many similar features, though im sure the coolness factor and pariphrial choices are not even close to that of the ipod… and im also willing to be theres no cross platforming for osx and pc...(i could be wrong on this one, but dell is hella snooty and up Intel’s ass). Still, for the price, its an interesintg competitor.
ah one more thing… ive not found it on the net at all… any word on whether or not apple is going to jump on the tablet laptop market?
Well obviously for me, regardless of it’s size to price ratio, it doesn’t “get it done.” It doesn’t support AAC, and doesn’t sync playlists with iTunes, and wouldn’t work seamlessly with my iLife apps.
For a PC user though who had no interest in the iTunes music store, it’s not a horrible deal.
Yeah, im where your at. Creative labs has its’ own competitor as well. Yet again it seems to have the same fallbacks as Dell’s offering. Sorta neato styling, slightly larger than the iPod, less pariphrials, no itunes support (while i am well aware than itunes is not going to offer support for some other company, i know that Creative’s program will not have the ease of use and syncing power of itunes.), Lcunky buttons and interface, etc…
The only thing that intrigues me about the Creative model is the fact that it plays .wma files( im a big fan of these as you can have the same quality as an mp3 but in a 64k encoding (192 is CD quality for an mp3)which means that same song is about 1.3 meg instead of 3 megs), and I seriously yhitnk that it would have kick ass sound. My little mp3 player has exceptional sound. Better than any ‘mini’ mp3 player ive heard. With the same technology, but in a package that allows for more circuitboard space, im sure it could get even better. This is of course not to say that the Ipod doesnt have amazing sound as well. On any mac that ive used, the sound was quite pleasing, and im sure the iPod is no exception
It seems that again, there are kids on the playground rushing to be king of the mountain, but i dont think iPod will get up to let anyone else have room to sit.
Wow I had no clue that the hard drives in the existing iPods were 1.8” across. I had always assumed that they were using notebook sized hd’s, and that everything *else* had been miniaturized beyond recognition. (This coming from a related article from the CEE in Las Vegas, where Toshiba revealed a 1” 4GB hard drive. Evidently Toshiba has been making all of the iPod drives thus far, and the 40GB is 1.8")
