Dinosaur’s Soft Tissue Discovered
Wired posted an article today about the discovery of soft tissue in a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil. But a Jurassic Park-like scenario, where cloned dinosaurs rampaging throughout the jungles, or at the very least someone’s backyard, is unlikely because this is fossilization at a molecular level. Which means they can probably try to figure out the DNA breakdown by the shape of the “very tough, resistant, very lipid-rich material” that has replaced the actual protein cells.
What I’m interested in are a few details:
1. Why release the name MOR 1125 to the public. I’d at least give it a l33tsp34k equivalent like “Morris”, or at the very least nickname it after a famous reptile, such as Trogdor.
2. How did they know the tyrannosaur died at age 18, and did it still get carded at bars before its death?
