Gay Marriage Take 2

My respect for the creators of BoingBoing is continuing to drop.  Yes, blog owners everywhere, even slightly here, are vehemently beginning to air both political and religious ideology and how and why it should control other people’s lives.  Well, the “religious right” as it has been dubbed are certainly well-known for their ridiculous propoganda and misinformed attacks on opposing viewpoints.  So maybe it’s just that I don’t like people who stereotypically and ignorantly see only one side of the argument.  BoingBoing, if you’ve been paying attention, has begun to post a LOT less tech and geek related things, and more and more of their political and religious views.  Tons of attacks on Bush (yay), tons of attacks on Mel Gibson (immature) and The Passion (haven’t seen it), and of any opposing viewpoint on gay marriage.

Well this post was particularly annoying to me.  Not only because, to me, it really doesn’t fit what their blog attracted me to them in the first place, but because it’s just so brazenly ignorant.

Whether one chooses to believe or respect anything or not from the Bible is their own business.  And they’re free to, without any annoyance to me, express those views.  But ignorant attacks do their point no good.  Kind of like the people that bomb and terrorize abortion clinics.  Yeah, not getting a lot of support on that.

Long and the short of it?  Those citations are from the Mosaic Law covenant, which Jesus himself said was no longer binding after his life.  According to the Bible’s own account, those laws were in place to help preserve the relatively small population of Jews, helping them to grow in number and in unity.  It served it’s purpose and is not binding to anyone professing to be a Christian today.  Homosexuality, unlike those citations, was repeated after Jesus’s death among practices that would be devastating to a Christian.

Just to be sure that people are aware--I refuse to take anything but a neutral stand, and for the reasons above, I don’t want to be involved or associated with either group.  The extreme sides of both viewpoints are sickening and neither one is showing any sign of intelligent debate, only ignorant and unfounded mockery.

And while we’re on it, why won’t the “religious right” propose an amendment to make divorce more difficult?

I began to notice the subtle content change you’re speaking of when Boing Boing announced that they had switched over to Movable Type, and that the site was in the process of being redesigned. Of course, I don’t think that their CMS or redesign has a lick to do with their current postings, but maybe they’ve decided to take the site in a new direction, and are slowly attempting to acclimate their readers to a new format. That’s the feeling I’m getting, anyway. But, who knows?  Anymore, I’m in the same boat as you, but I’m only hitting Boing Boing every three or four days, and usually via another site’s external links. Bummer.

Regarding the Bible and homosexuality being a sin, and thus opposing gay marriage, the “Christian” right has it wrong.

I invite you to read: “Connecting the Biblical Dots: Why Jesus Is For Same-sex Marriage.” It’s a biblically grounded paper that gives a convincing argument why homosexuality is not a sin to God and why marriage, including same-sex marriage, is the acceptable standard. Actually I read the above link. I think it is apparent that these people suffer from alot of circular reasoning. You know ,"If A is true that means B must also be true...”. Man I don’t even think atheists would believe that one.

I am going to have to agree with aztlan. I see to many papers and books where people try to put words into jesus’s mouth to support thier own beliefs. The KKK also uses this tactic to support thier theories. I dont have to tell you what i think of them.

Either way, religion should not have anything to do with the government, other than making people free to practice it as they please, as long as it does not hurt others. We left england becuase of laws that made us follow church rules, why the hell should we do it here again?

<not against homosexuallity, not against christians, am against people trying to force thier opinions on people about each subjuct>

As for the boingboing post, i too have noticed MANY people trying on thier blogs and sites going more politcal. i do realize that a personal blog is for personal things, but seriously, wasnt the internet created for information and porn?

Then again, it is a free country and a free internet, i just refuse to pay much attention to a site that is going to display long arguments for something such as this.
