GMail Prevented from Big Brothering by… Big… Brother

The Senate passed a bill yesterday that limits Google’s use of scanning and advertising with their upcoming email service, Gmail.

The legislation allows them to move forward with their scanning and ads, but prevents them from retaining any copies of emails that the user deletes, which was a major privacy concern.  Rhetorical question: How does the Senate work so quickly to get a bill like this passed before Gmail is even rolled out, and everything else stays tied up in beaurocratic gridlock?

No kidding! At least Gmail can still be used by CA people. What I read of the bill, they wanted to stop Gmail completely in CA.

That was the ”state Senate”, Derek.  The California state Senate to be specific.

But the jab about how long it usually takes to do things is quite true.

Ooooooh.  I guess I read that before I was fully awake.  Well I’m sure Arnie will sort it all out.
