‘Groundhog Day’ and Religion
It’s hard not to like the 1993 movie Groundhog Day. Bill Murray delivers a fine comedic performance and the plotline is actually rather original. Who would have thought, though, that the movie would strike such a religious resonance? Apparently everyone from Christians, to Jesuits, to Buddhists see reflections of their own beliefs in the film.
In fact, the movie has even been included in the Museum of Modern Art’s new film series, “The Hidden God: Film and Faith”. Not too bad for a simple little comedy, huh?
