‘IE7’… CSS2 support in IE?

Let me first be clear that this is not something about an “official” Internet Explorer 7 version.  Instead, Dean Edwards is working on something that will basically make IE 5.5+ on windows behave well and correctly follow the CSS2 specification instead of being the ugly, broken browser we’ve all come to love to hate.  It’s what he’s dubbing IE7:

IE7 invokes a DHTML behavior to load and parse all style sheets into a form that Explorer can understand. You can then use most CSS2 selectors without having to resort to CSS hacks.

It’s something that you, the web developer, implement, so the onus is not on the user of your site.  Further, it will allow you to just write regular CSS and not worry about having to hack around :IE:’s limitations.  This is darn near to a “dream come true” for us developers.

IE7 is definitely something to keep an eye on as additional capabilities are added and it moves out of “alpha” status. (via webgraphics)
