Keeping Your Content from Being Blocked

I don’t get a chance to visit it very often, but since I’ve started my own Sites that Suck commentaries, I figured I had better pop over to webpagesthatsuck.com and go through their Daily Sucker entries and make sure that I don’t dupe anything that they already have.  That would be like handing you the bunch of green leaf lettuce that’s been in the bottom of the bin at Walmart for three weeks and is a semisolid brown mass of goo, and I don’t think Chris would like that too much.

While looking, I came across this new feature on making sure that your content is not getting blocked by ad blockers.  Ad blocking is one of my favorite things about the Mozilla family.  See an ad image?  Right click, select “Block Images from this Server”, hit refresh, and viola!  No more ads.  (Of course, you will do this at least a dozen times on various sites before you really see that it’s got most of them.)

Mozilla is smart, and only blocks images from servers that you specify, which if you do it properly are servers that exist soley for the purpose of hosting ads.  On the other hand, Norton’s, McAfee, and the majority of the other anti-thingsyoudontlike software packages, aren’t.  I guess they serve a purpose, as intelligently right-clicking a dozen or so times is too complex for the average PC consumer, and these programs are increasingly pre-installed on new machines.  Bottom-line: these internet security programs use key full and partial words, and if your files or directories are using any portion of these blocked phonemes, your content might be blocked and unviewable on hundreds of thousands of computers.

LMAO.  The example cited in that article (the company Blackbaud) is a competitor to the company I work for.  Just kind of funny seeing that.

I don’t really think about it much, but that author is definitely correct that checking stuff like this is important.  A year or two ago I was making a site that had a bunch of banners you could use for linking purposes.  Well, I named the page “banners.html” or something similar and every time I would browse to it my stupid pop-up blocking software would close my browser window.

Luckily, the Mozilla family is much smarter, but not everyone’s smart enough to use Mozilla…

*cough*

Um, yeah… I know statistics… And I have a Masters degree.  Oh, and I actually know something about financial/fund accounting software since I’ve been working with it for a year and a half.

Obviously, the answer to all those non-questions is “no”.  I did take one Statistics course in college: “Statistics for Mechanical Engineers”.  It was a 6-hour/credit course that was crammed into 2-hours.  We all royally hated that course and I barely remember anything from it because it burned out large portions of my brain.

I am not sure on these I’net’s whom I am communicating with.  That is the only problem.

Nevertheless, here goes nothing.  My money is being blocked, my credit accounts are blocked.  That resis monkey is in my house on Olson Drive, my car is at Uncle Frank’s in Cherry Hill and is towed off the property.  I got another one; a Dodge Lancer with 198,000 miles on it and it was stolen by a Keith Bartlett look-a-like from the Galloway Township Police Department.  I was taken from my marital home by a Keith Bartlett look-a-like from the Southington Sherrif’s department.  I am a friend of Keith Bartlett although I don’t know him that well.  We worked together at Sperry Corporation.  I told Keith Bartlett “No” to sex and he was stronger than I was and got beyond the front door of my dwelling.  I didn’t scream so it is my fault.  I should have screamed.  Although when that gunman pointed a handgun at my head in Camden, New Jersey I didn’t scream then either.  I was afraid the gun would blow a hole through my brain so I kept quiet.  Back to Keith and I, we drank that night so I don’t have a leg to stand on.  So, I went on.  Maybe I am wrong for not reporting it, but, like I said, we are not mad at each other YET.

Why don’t you like me by the way?  I tried in life.  I had a beautiful home.  I tried to better myself.  I am now out of ideas careerwise.  I was hoping to go to COMDEX however, my daughter is the utmost importance to me and if she is here in Southington, I want her to feel safe and know her Mom is close by.  Even if I cannot be with her, I hope she knows that Mom is here.

I have the feeling my Dad is close at hand and my step-parents.  This, Southington, CT is a great town with many fine people.  I am very fortunate to have met and know some of the townspeople here in New England.  We have a similar setup in the Brunswick area of New Jersey.  And, South Jersey, as always, is very fun.

Thanks for your time.
