KOTOR and Realistic/Mature Games
There’s a new article over on Wired that delves into an emerging trend in video games—that of giving the player a more immersive, more mature game.
It mentions Knights of the Old Republic prominently. That game is just amazing. I beat it a few days ago (light side Scoundrel->Guardian, for those who play it yourself) and I’ve already started my second game with it. As the article linked above mentions ”Knights of the Old Republic… amounts to the best Star Wars movie since 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back.”
That couldn’t be more true. The story is vintage Star Wars (far, far better at its heart than the two prequels so far) and there’s so much that goes on that it could easily be a trilogy of movies itself. Your character starts out waking up on a ship under attack and your adventure takes you through 8 huge locations and upon a journey in which you’ll discover secrets about the Jedi, Sith, and yourself.
Dammit, now I want to go home and play some more! [grin]

Way to go, bunghole, now I want to go home too.
Seriously though, this is the best RPG I’ve played. Star Wars or not--it’s just fandiddly-tastic!
