Outdoor Gear Wishlist - Forever Flashlight

With an upcoming kayak excursion, my eyes float towards new and nifty gear.  I’ll probably have quite a few of these “wishlist” type items, so I’ll use the above title to sort them.

Today’s item is the Forever Flashlight.  Working on the Principle of Induction, you shake it to pass a magnet across a coil, providing power to the battery cell.  And it’s an LED based lamp, so it won’t destroy your night vision, and it should provide scattered light instead of a regular flash-light’s spot light.

The only issue here: my current LED headlamp is

  • handsfree
  • three-diode
  • has three modes of brightness, and
  • I already own it
The weight of the magnet in the Forever Flashlight makes the mini really the only one will satisfy my ultra-light fixation (3.6 oz. versus the 5 oz. the Aurora has with batteries), and I’m concerned that it just won’t put out enough light in comparison.  Either way, the Forever Flashlight is still a very cool idea, and I might pick up a large one to keep in my truck, or at home for emergencies.
