Photoshop was made for Star Wars?

An interview with an early Adobe employee reveals that Photoshop was originally created due to the Star Wars movies!  The software was created at the request of John Knoll who was in charge of special effects.  He wanted something “to add effects and painting tools to images”.

How cool is that?  (via Boing Boing)

I noticed a “Thomas Knoll” in the Photoshop credits when every time it’s launched. I realized his surname is similiar to John Knoll… but never did I guess at their relationship to each other… and to Star Wars.

Wrong Wrong Wrong

It is wrong, actually.  Photoshop was originally called BarneyScan.  It was scanning software written by Thomas Knoll.
