TinkerTool for OS X

Just a quick post here to mention a handy little OS X application called TinkerTool.  What it does, is simply give you access to various preference settings in OS X that often aren’t normally available.  The one that immediately jumped out at me was “Disable the creation of hidden Finder .DS_Store files on network volumes”.  The app is free and only affects the current user (i.e. no admin access needed and it won’t change any actual OS things).  Found via SimpleBits.

TinkerTool (which has been around since at least the 10.1 days) in the past could easily cause serious problems, especially between OS updates.  At least that has been my experience.  Random application errors, funky desktop behavior.  All fixed by removing the TinkerTool preference pane.

I also like to disable .DS_Store files (and resource forks) on network volumes, but prefer to use the much more compact, trouble-free BlueHarvest for the task.

Gonna have to agree with DJ on this one. Tinker Tool has been problematic for me in the past.

Blue harvet however, while in my pref pane, isn’t configured. Mainly because i want it to work for thumbdrives more than anything, and i have yet to be successful with it.
