Tranquility Bay… Not!
Comments
Although I’m not so appalled by the principle of such a place, I am horrified at the total lack of accountability that some parents have. To send their poorly-parented (non-parented?) child into the extreme authority of a place like Tranquility is among the most flagrant examples of irrisponsibility I can think of. Whatever happend to parents raising their kids?!
To quote the Simpsons… “But Doc, man… we’ve tried *nothing* and we’re all out of ideas!”
All you end up with is a broken person who cowers before all forms of authority, or they revert to their “wicked ways”, possibly worse than before. Granted… some kids probably *do* need this kind of system. But to just say, “sure… here’s $40k… go fix my kid for me… and rotate his tires too"… that just makes me ill.
I’m an Aussie and was reading a magazine when I stumbled across an article about the so-called “Tranquillity Bay” detention camp in Jamaica. I am appalled at the information I have read. Parents, if your child is wearing baggy jeans or too tight a top don’t send them into exile, take them shopping.
Kids don’t need extreme punishment and torture, they need love
One of my really close friends just got sent to TB last week and i need information about this place so i can see what he*s going through and so i can pray for him.. if you have any infortmation please email me! Thank you.

HI I WENT TO THE PROGRAM TRANQUILITY BAY AND TRUST ME YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THAT PLACE IS LIKE UNTIL YOUR ACTUALLY THERE. I WAS THERE FOR 15 MONTHS. SOMETIMES I LITERATLLY THOUGHT THAT I WAS IN HELL. IT TRIES TO BRAINWASH YOU. YOU HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE(I.E. PARENTS AND REPORTERS) THAT EVERYTHING THERE IS SO GREAT. BUT NO CHILD DESERVES TO GO THROUGH THAT. THERE ARE FAR BETTER ALTERNATIVES FOR EVEN THE WORST KIDS. I DO NOT EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW SOMETHING LIKE THAT IS ALLOWED TO GO ON… MAYBE BECAUSE ITS OUTSIDE THE U.S.. BUT I DONT EVEN LIKE TO THINK BACK TO BEING THERE
i guess the “Don’t use all caps” portion of the program didn’t stick.
omg!! i was there in jamacia also, guess what it sucks there, im not gonna cry now i did then but no kid should EVER have to be sent to another country for some downhome discipline instead. ey kristen, we were in the same group together, i was there for 27 months.
I was there 97-98 and it is a HORRIBLE place
yah i was thre in 2000 2001 it was pretty bad but i can say though i could of avoided all of it, there are consecquences to your actions, but i dont think people should be sent there its really bad
i just got out of tranquility bay 3 weeks ago.i was there for 12 months, and that place messed me up.everything that goes down there is so wrong!parents, please don’t send your children to tranquility bay.i’m not just some angry teenager who’s pissed off at the fact that they sent me to this institution.i’m a young girl who’s gone through alot in the past year.i watched my peers get physically abused and treated inhumanely, and then expected to act with perfect politeness and obedience.personally i was sent to tranquility bay by my upper middle class parents because i got pregnant .i was illegally forced to have an abortion and then had escorts kidnap me and bring me to that concentration camp they call tranquility bay.i hadn’t even recovered physically from my abortion but was given no symapthy by the staff who work there who treated us with nothing but coldness and callousness.i was physically abused by the staff at tranquility bay, and was made to feel evil and dirty because of my sexual preference being a bisexual.NOTHING warrants a stay in that hell.if your kid needs help, go elsewhere-this place will only help your child develop a deep hatred for you and neuroses.my parents have asked for my forgiveness-amazingly!-for both the abortion and for my stay at T.B.,but u no wat-that kind of thing is unforgiveable.
I couldn’t bear to read that. :-(
My uncle founded a camp for troubled youth (Englishton Park in Indiana) . He long ago retired from any involvement in the place, but since I spent some grade school years in Chicago, we used to have to go visit there. Even as a child myself, I was shocked at the behavior of these kids. My uncle was saddened that any progress made with these kids was immediately reversed when the kids went home with the parents. The parents often refused any classes or therapy for themselves, because *gasp!* it couldn’t be a PARENTING problem.
