Visualize Your Tax Spending
Posted over on Boing Boing, Xeni pointed to this very cool visual representation of how US taxes were spent in 2004. It’s fascinating to visually see how much was spent on one thing (the ‘Bureau of Indian Affairs’, for example, at $2.462 billion) compared to another (say, the navy’s ‘Virginia Class Submarine’ program at $2.640 billion). You can order a print of the art via Diviant Art if you like and even though the piece is a couple of years old now I’m a bit tempted to do so.
Over on his personal site, the author ("mibi", or Francisco Devante Mibigatti) has posted that he’s going to start work on a 2007 version of the art, which will hopefully be out soon. (The author doesn’t appear to provide any direct, permanent links to the entry in question, so if you can’t find it at the link provided you may just have to look around. Sorry.)
