Watch Democracy
No, I’m not talking about the “democratic process” or anything like that. Rather, I’m referring to the new “internet TV platform” known as Democracy. It’s kind of hard to describe (so just go and take a look), but the Democracy player is sort of an amalgamation of RSS feeds (to find content), bittorrent (to download the content), and VLC (a multi-platform/format player to watch content). There’s been a Macintosh OS X version of the player available for a while, but they finally finished a Windows version so other people can try it out.
I downloaded an early version of the app way back in November, but I never actually installed or ran it. I decided to give the newer version a spin earlier tonight and I really have to say that I’m pretty impressed with it. There are all sorts of channels (RSS feeds in reality) that you can subscribe to, which causes the app to download the different episodes (individual videos/entries in the feed) in the background. After you have some episodes downloaded, you can watch them at your leisure and then either choose to save a particular episode if you really liked it or otherwise just let it expire and be removed automatically.
The first channel I sought out to subscribe to was “Current” (do a search in the Channel Guide), which is based off of the real Current television station (one I was recently turned on to and can hardly stop watching).
Anyway, give it a try and see what you think.
