Wesley Willis R.I.P.

Wesley Willis, famed artist of such songs as Suck a Donkey’s Bootyhole and Kill That Jerk, passed away last month.  I’m really not particularly familiar with his music myself, but Derek mentions him pretty frequently.

Of course, Derek may well already be aware of this news… (via Boing Boing)

Yeah, I’m kind of surprised that Boing Boing (which as slipped my reading) is just now reporting it.  NPR did a tribute the morning after his death, which was done very well.

When you listen to Willis, you’ll do one of two things: make fun of the guy, or realize what the words streaming from his mouth mean to him internally, and be happy that he got to “make it big” instead of ending up in an institution.  One song in particular he sings about how he was in a grocery store and the voices in his head started acting up and yelled and cussed at them in the soup isle; and how he felt like a real jerk at making an ass out of himself in public.
