Why Nerds are Unpopular

Paul Graham wrote a really interesting essay discussing reasons why “nerds" are unpopular.  It basically posits that a lot of the problems in American secondary schools (i.e. the nerds-vs-popular-kids issue) can be traced mostly to the fact that the schools largely have little purpose these days—they’re mostly just places to put the kids while the parents are at work and the kids aren’t mature enough to be on their own at college.

Not saying I agree with everything in the essay, but it certainly raises some fascinating points.
