Wireless Tech with Magnets?
A new wireless technology is starting to make inroads for short-range applications. Nearly all current wireless technologies (bluetooth, Wi-Fi/802.11b, etc.) use radio frequency (RF) signals to transmit the data. This “new” technique uses magnetic induction instead, and thus consumes far less power while also being less subject to interference.
I use a regular Wi-Fi/802.11b network at home since we have computers in three separate rooms spread across the apartment and only one cable modem. I hate it. For some bizarre reason we’ve had zero luck tracking down, my computer will simply stop resolving new domains after a couple of hours, so I have to reboot my computer (to get it to start again) multiple times a day. WTF is up with that?? If stringing Cat-5 cable across the apartment weren’t such a hazard I’d take a baseball bat or high explosives to that evil wireless router and card.
Needless to say, I’d love a different wireless technology if it were more reliable.
